Quilts on Sunday Returns

as     Open Studio at STUDIO     B

Laura Lee Fritz and Dr. Stephanie Bennett-Strauss are going to sell their quilts on Sunday.

In fact every Sunday, at Marin Museum of Contemporary Art

781 Hamilton Parkway, studio B, Novato CA 94949*

CLASSES: Starting January 8 2012, Sunday 11:30 am - 3:30 pm

at Studio B:  Basic Hand Applique, taught by Laura Lee Fritz  $25 per four-hour class.

This will start with:

• choosing fabric to handturn, needleturn basics, marking your fabric for cutting your applique shapes, how to stitch the basic shapes found in all appliques (square corners, dagger points, inner vee corners, fingertip curves, hairpin curves).                                                                 

• Subsequent Sundays, same place - same time, through January and February, will expand on the basics by teaching you next how to layer your applique pieces for securely holding your project together for years of use, and then how to design your own applique pieces from your own photographs. 

• Then you will learn how to detail your applique with the most exacting but simple embroideries to pull out the personality of your characters.    

• Come for one week, come for all, no long-term commitment required, no minimum number of participants to risk cancellation. Once you have your piece designed, and the layers cut, return as often as desired for continuing coaching as you progress through the construction of your applique quilt.                                                                                     

•  In March we will begin an ongoing series of quiltmaking classes, special topics taking one week per topic, covering specialty designs, hand piecing and machine piecing curved blocks, fabric painting, batiking and countless more topics.  Taught by Laura and by Stephanie.  $25 per four-hour Sunday class, these will be in the Museum Classroom, down the hall from Studio B.  For these classes you will sign up with the Museum, minimum participants required to prevent class cancellations.  Stay tuned for the class date line-up so you know what weeks to sign up for.                                                                               These will be held on the Second and Fourth Sundays each month, again, beginning in March.

*(Hamilton Parkway is the road with the Marin Airporter and Courtyard by Marriott, follow it to the center of Hamilton formerly Air Force Base, when you see the classic old mission-style headquarters and palm trees everywhere, you have reached the complex.)
